I met Kirsten and Eric back in 2014 when I second shot their wedding for my dear friend, Karen Obrist. These two have since moved to Chicago, but were back in town for Thanksgiving and Karen referred them to me, as she's now in New York! It was so fun to see them again and to meet their 7-month old baby girl as well as the rest of the family. Kennedy was the happiest baby and it was great to get some baby advice from Kirsten as we are expecting a baby girl soon too! A joy to have spent some time with this family.
Ally is a co-worker who I met a couple years ago (what?!) and since meeting her, we've connected on our similar taste in style/cutesy things, family and most importantly Jesus! She has the cutest two girls, who continually teach even me things every time Ally posts about 'em. Aaron and I had such a great time hanging out with this family a few Sundays back. I love these images.
It's been a minute since I blogged! And another one since I've done some senior portraits. It's definitely that time again and no better to kick it off than my beautiful cousin, Jasmine. Life moves so fast and I can't believe she's starting her Senior year. Happy first day of school and let me know if senior portraits are still a need. Booking until this November :)
A little over four years ago, I met Jess and Tom for the first time as they were nearing the day when they would be able to meet their firstborn daughter, Sadie. It was seriously such a joy to be able to see this family again and to finally be able to meet their precious kiddos! Jess and Tom feel like old friends and photographing them was easy peasy. Thank you again for welcoming me into your lives for a morning.
It's pretty crazy and fun to look back on this family from just a year ago. Thanks for being awesome, you guys. We love you!
In 64 days, these two will be pronounced husband and wife. Excited for you guys! Thanks for an enjoyable evening.
Second shot by my love, Aaron McCarty.
My best friend is getting married!! Huyen and Duc live in Vegas but flew back to the Northwest so we could do a session in Huyen's hometown, Olympia, and also in downtown Seattle for a city look. We spent the whole day working on wedding stuff and I can't wait to be IN the wedding this coming March in Hawaii ;) Our girl, Shelby Payne, will do an incredible job documenting their nuptials and I'm pumped!
I remember how these two were quirkily (is that word?) flirting with one another sophomore year of college, how Joel reached out to me about photographing the proposal, and how wonderfully well these two balance each other out. Annie is sure and hilarious, bold and beautiful. Joel is steady and calm. Since photographing these two, baby Luca has arrived. I have no doubt they will be wonderful parents.
I met David four years ago, studying abroad in Italy. I love reconnecting with old friends, years later, in new seasons and life changes. He and Lindsey came to Seattle to celebrate one year of marriage together. We laughed, ate sushi, and had some heart to heart conversations. Lucky to know these two.
A few hours spent at home with this little family. I can't believe a year has passed since I first met this little one. The days past too quickly.
A year and a half ago, I photographed Alison and Franklin's lovely maternity session. Last week we returned with their precious Eleanor and captured their family now. I love seeing how the seasons have changed and documenting these big moments in life.
Erin and Jack. These two were up for an adventure as we headed out to Snohomish the first weekend of 2015 in search of some beautiful PNW scenery. At one point, I really thought we'd be up on the switchbacks stuck in the icy snow. So dang lucky to know them and their love.
Olivia and Nathan are getting married this coming July. These two are so silly and crazy in love with each other and I can't wait to photograph their wedding day.
Here is Gina and Josh and they are some of the most kind people. These two were just a few months into their relationship when I moved in with Gina a few years ago, and I'm so excited that I (ME!) get the chance to photograph their wedding day. Gina traveled to Florence, Italy with her sister for a culinary excursion this past summer and Josh pulled off the most epic proposal there. Gentlemen, take note.
I've loved working alongside Megan and Colby this past year- they're incredible leaders and friends with large hearts for people. When they told me they were expecting, I could barely contain my excitement. Less than a year after, Jaxon is here and he couldn't be more perfect. Here are photos from him at two weeks old. Love you guys so much.
From the moment I met this couple, I knew that I had to photograph their wedding. We share the same zeal for life and hobbies (like running and traveling!- they were in Japan for a month before their wedding)! The love they have for one another is so completely adorable. This day just rocked in every way possible. Enjoy one of my favorite weddings I've had the privilege of documenting!
Ceremony Venue + Reception Venue: Crockett Farm B&B, Wedding Dress: Nicole Millerl, Wedding Coordination: Erin Hatch, Florist: Paula Doe (bride's mother), Bakery: Whidbey Pies, Caterer: Mulugeta Abate, Band: Pine Hearts, Second Shooter: Michele Equitz
Something different because you need that in life.
A quality guy with a huge heart.
A quality guy with a huge heart.
I met Emily and Andy over lunch just over two weeks ago. Emily felt like an old friend and the three of us talked about weddings and running and pending adventures overseas. The week after, I met them at their lovely home in Capitol Hill and we spent an evening walking their neighborhood and laughing a whole ton. To say that I am excited for their wedding day would be an understatement.
Laura and Chris. This day was one of my favorites- not because Laura made a lovely bride, not because the florals were beautiful... and not even because the weather was pretty perfect. No, this day was one of my favorites because of Laura and Chris. These two have an amazing love for everyone they come across. They are fun and they are funny. They are kind and they are kindred. They are warm and they are witty. They know how to throw a party and be a party. I can't think of a better way I would've spent this Saturday. Thank you for trusting me and thank you for your friendship. Congrats you two.
Okay, so this session was one for the books. First things first, these two looked pretty damn good. Second, just real good conversations and laughs happenin'. Third? Musashi's and Molly Moon's to boot. You just can't top that. I wouldn't mind third-wheeling with these two again.
My friend Olivia has an incredible voice and is living her dream of teaching music to kiddos.
I was able to meet Kim and David before I photographed them and at first glance, I knew that it would be a breeze to create some beautiful frames with them. I admire the way these two desire Jesus in their lives and I love the way they love each other.... so fun and sweet. Thanks for kicking off 2014 you guys :)
We found ourselves on a roof and we caught the sunset.
When I met Shana three years ago, I knew we'd be friends for a long time. She is one of the most welcoming and kind people you'll ever meet, not to mention so talented in the arts and design. I couldn't be more excited for her and Nate. Congrats you guys! Can't wait for your wedding :)
Lisa and Nathan were married on a beautiful October day and looked so wonderfully classic. I loved sharing this day with them. Congrats again to you two!
I had the privilege of hearing John Roderick play yesterday evening during one of the Mill Street Sessions, a new endeavor that allows Northwest artists to play some raw music live. Check out their site to stay updated! Special thanks to Kris Orlowski for the opportunity to sit in and hear some tunes.
Danielle and Eric's wedding day was pretty darn near perfect. These two have been together for over eight years- living in different states and even different countries. Their love is the truest of forms and I couldn't be more excited to share some of my favorite moments from their day. Congrats again to you two!
I'm incredibly thankful for this girl.
I always told myself that I'd never really photograph maternity sessions, but I'm telling you what- with clients like Alison and Franklin, you can not go wrong. These two welcomed me into their darling Seattle home and we shared many laughters and created rad images that I am proud to share. Alison and Franklin have been married for three years- meeting Freshmen year of college and after a few years, she admitted to Franklin that she had more-than-friends feelings towards him... to which Franklin responded, "Really?"
I love it. Alison is due at the end of this month and they are waiting to find out the sex. They're going to be amazing parents, because they're amazing human beings.
See more maternity sessions here.
Desi is a close friend of mine and so you can imagine my level of excitement for her and Chad, her now fiancé! These two are like chips to salsa, peanut butter to jelly, mac to cheese, eggs to bacon... (that one was for you, Desi). I can't imagine two more perfect for the other. I remember days when Desi came home and attempted to explain these feelings that she didn't want to admit. When she told me they were official, I knew that was it. This session was a blast- thanks for soaking in that rain, you guys (literally!)
Kristi and David are two people who love each other quite deeply and it showed in ever aspect of their day. The two of them did a phenomenal job putting together a beautiful celebration with their dearest. From the stunning invitations, to the friends involved with the ceremony music, to the personal pizzas and Molly Moon's ice cream... to the laughs and the time spent with each other, I enjoyed this day immensely.
Thanks Alex for some of these killer frames below.
Ceremony Venue: Gas Works Park, Reception Venue: Within Sodo, Second Shooter: Alex Herbig, Make-Up Artist: Hanna Mazur Wedding Dress: from Blue Sky Bridal, Wedding Coordination: Manette Gracie Events, Florist: Melanie Benson, Dessert: Molly Moon's Ice Cream, Caterer: Feed Co. Catering & Streetzeria, DJ: Marc Matsui of Integral DJs, Wedding Invitations: Daniel Kiyoi of Paper Playne
From the moment I met Laura and Chris, I just knew that we'd get along. They both have a sense of humor similar to mine and it was as if I'd known them for years. Also, Laura has the BEST laugh. I can not wait for their wedding this coming April. Thanks for hanging guys!
Cat and Ardon threw an epic dance party for their guests, complete with many DJs who all happen to be friends. A highlight of the day, which will probably be one for the books, is when the entire wedding party plus two photographers hopped aboard an 18-passenger van that has been in the family for years. Now that, that was a memorable experience. Cat and Ardon, thanks again for having me. Wishing you two the very best!
Venue: Seattle Marriot Waterfront Hotel, Wedding Coordinator: Joseph Forrest- Event Manager at Seattle Marriot, Second Shooter: Alex Herbig, Wedding Dress: Melissa Sweet from David's Bridal, Florist: Metropolitan Market, Bakery: Mimi's Bakery, Caterer: Larry Talon- Seattle Marriot Executive Chef, DJ: Integral DJs
First and foremest I'd like to thank Lisa and Nathan for being extremely rad human beings. When I met them for the first time, I knew that they were my type of couple. They love food and exploring new restaurants- speaking a girl's language here! So of course, we hung out one night and they took me to 8oz Burger Bar, which is, if I may say so myself, the best burger I've ever had in Seattle. I had a blast with these two and I felt totally comfortable being myself in front of them. I can't wait for their October wedding- I know it's going to be amazing, because these two are stylin'!
It's been awhile since I've photographed an engagement session- or at least it feels like it. These two flew back from Colorado to spend a Saturday with me and I'm so grateful for that. Their love is easy and I definitely felt it while with them. Congrats you two :)
Tessa's one of those girls that just glow. She is a one of the kindest people I've ever met and sharing a house with her this past year was so much fun. We put together a fun shoot last month with one of her old pageant dresses and had a blast. Think forest nymph ;)
I've had the privilege of living with Desi for the past year and a half-- it has been such a blessing to call her a friend. She's been there for me through a ton and I know that the Lord is gonna use her in big ways. From the skype dates from I was in Italy and she was in Guatemala, the crazy dances to Skrillex's Cinema, our (mostly her's) obsession with bacon and BLTs, decorating an apartment together and then moving up to a house, I'm gonna miss calling her a roommate.
It's this lady's birthday today- I've had so many good times with this one. She is an adventurous spirit and she's gonna do cool things.
See part 1 here.
This girl amazes me. She's such a babe and has a beautiful heart for people. I love living life with her.
Lauren and Kyle are local architects here in Seattle and their home truly reflected their warmness and style. Avery, their little girl, was such a joy to follow and photograph. She is a beauty. Loved spending time with this family.
Nhaca and Isaiah have been blissfully wed for four months- they had a small intimate wedding in Switzerland with close family and friends. Of course they wanted to celebrate with their friends here as well so they had a small reception a few weeks ago in Seattle. These two are incredible together- they currently live in Cambodia doing non-profit work and will soon move to Singapore at the end of summer. I've known Nhaca for probably about 10 years and I always admired how strong-willed and independent she was- and I always knew she'd be doing big things. I'm so glad that she found someone to do them alongside her.
Emily and Brett are two of the raddest people ever. They both work as graphic designers here in the Seattle area and make a super dynamic couple. We spent an awesome Sunday afternoon making these images and the light was exactly what I was hoping for. And Emily's eyes? SO GOOD. No doubt I had a blast hanging out with them! It's the best when you end some photo magic with a good meal and some drinks. Happy Friday, friends!
Brianna Pt. 1
Ali and Chris are two beautiful people and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. Everything about this day was so "them". They rocked the cold February air and looked timeless, if I may say so myself. Congrats again and thank you for having me share your day.
This was my first wedding of 2013 and I'm excited for the rest of this season! Special thanks to my assistant Shelby Payne. Many of her frames are shared above.
The first time I met Julie was was when we were planning an 18-hour road trip down to Indio, California for Coachella. Yeah, that was a good time. This girl is strong-headed, strong-willed and one of the most independent women I know. She inspires the hell out of me. I asked if I could snag a few shots of her before she moved to Uganda a few months ago. This was before I was 100% sure I was going to be able to travel over there, but guess what? I get to see her next weekend as I'm leaving for Uganda tomorrow! Happy Friday! Hope you're enjoying that sunshine; I know I am as I'm listening to JT's new album. Good stuff.
*Last three frames taken with a Canon AE-1 using Portra 160 film.
Alex is one of those quiet, humble souls who is full of talent and passion for what he does. See his wonderful work here.
*Last four frames taken with a Canon AE-1 using Tri-X 400 film.
I've known isaiah since elementary school. Needless to say, we've both grown up quite a bit :) He's doin' and makin' music.
Amanda and Brandon rocked this sesssion- Seattle rain and all. They've been married for nearly four years and I'm so glad that our paths crossed. Their first date was at Pikes' so there was no better place to take these portraits. They recently dove into photography themselves this past year and it's gonna be so rad to see where it takes them.
These two took advantage of my current portrait special that is going on until the end of January. I'm fundraising for a trip to Uganda at the end of March to work at a childrens' home. If you want to book a session or find out more about my trip, feel free to send me an email or read about it here.
I hope that you all had the most wonderful Christmas day with your loved ones!
So, I'll go right out and say it. This was my first maternity session and I was nervous but Jessica and Tom welcomed me right into their home and I loved every second I spent with them. I left my time with them with a happy heart. These were taken about a week before she was due and I am honored to have been able to capture such a monumental time in their lives. When I asked what they would name their daughter, all they could tell me that it would start with an S and when they saw her they would know. Jessica is stunning, is she not? Thanks again to you two and congrats on becoming parents :)
I like Erika. I like Kevin. And I reallllly love the two of them together. Kevin relentlessly pursued Erika for years before she finally admitted that she liked him too. Her engagement ring is the coolest- he had it custom made and engraved with three mountains that they have special memories with. If anyone knows Erika, then they'll agree that it's perfect for her.
I met these two nine months ago when we embarked on a road trip of a lifetime down to Joshua Tree. Originally I went just for the adventure, but it was because of this trip and because of these people that I fell in love with rock climbing. These two define kindness and friendship. I am blessed by them all the time and I am so very excited for them to begin the journey of marriage. Congrats you guys, you two are somethin' special.
This beautiful lady. She's off to travel the world in January with the organization World Race. They'll be visiting 11 countries in 11 months. I remember us standing my kitchen just 10 months ago talking about her desire to go and it's coming true. Excited for you!
This family has got to be one of the most photogenic families I've come across, I'm not even kidding. I was so honored and excited to be able to spend some time with Gabriel, Lorraine, Ashley and Alyssa. They have some good genes and some good vibes. Lorraine runs a successful photography business herself specializing in senior portraits and she rocks at it. You can find her work here :)
I kid you not, I was literally grinning ear to ear the whole time I was working on these photos because this family was hilarious. Yee and Carolyn are two of the coolest parents around town. I mean, I'm pretty sure that the Gangnam style is actually the Feng style. The whole family has that dance down to a tee. I hadn't seen Ellie since she first came into this world about a year and a half ago... and Jediah, well words just won't do justice to the kid. This family is rad annnnd they're the first ones to help me out with my Uganda fundraiser! More cool points!
Yee is an amazing photographer himself and I've had the privilege of working alongisde him. Definitely check out his work if you've got some time (let's face it... you're on my blog, you have time).
A few nights before these two were to be wed, I came across this blog post that Dusty had shared on his Facebook. It almost made me tear up. Some of the sweetest words I have ever read... clearly, the man has a way with words. Kristin and Dusty are two of the craziest and fun-loving people I've ever met. They are 100%, genuinely themselves and they don't care who knows it. The way these two looked at each other, laughed with each other and had all these inside jokes... their love was meant to be. Every detail about this day was beautifully planned and thought out. It was so fun to see it all come together after all the time Kristin had been telling me about it. And they were so easy to photograph! (Okay, I knew had it good ever since their engagement session.)The best part was probably when these two pulled out a Zelda sword to cut their wedding cake with. I tell you, unashamedly them. I love it.
I was feelin' it. As a photographer or any creative in general, sometimes you just get burnt out... gotta get out there and do a little something different. This is what happened. And I'm feelin' it. The black and white frames towards the end were shot with my little faithful Dallas (also known as my Canon AE-1). Jordan is also a creative and does freaking amazing work. Check it.
Also, as a sidenote if you're reading this, I would like to thank you. Thank you for being a faithful supporter of my blog, my work and my life. Things have been crazy on my end and it's hard to keep sane and keep things on track. I have so many wonderful things to share with you in this next month! It's NOVEMBER. My favorite. Thank you. Your encouragement means the very most.
Clay wanted some photos to celebrate Cassi's birthday. They're both babes, am I right or am I right? That is all that is to be said. Thanks for the laughs, you two.
Joy and Steve were married mid-June at Mars Hill's beautiful U-District campus. I loved being a part of their day- they are just two beautiful people who were so obviously in love. The two of them saved their first kiss for the altar and I could tell all day leading up to it that they could hardly wait! They even scheduled time after the ceremony so that I could take "kissing" portraits of them. So good. I can't thank my awesome assistant and second for the day Karen Obrist enough- a few of her shots are featured above. You can check out Joy and Steve's engagement session here.
Reesa and Jeff tied the knot earlier in June at the Seattle Temple and then regathered in Olympia for a small and intimate celebration with your closest family and friends. Dancing with them was a darn good time and I was pretty envious of their rad dance skills. I am honored to have been a part of their day.
Okay I'm pretty sure I was super intimidated by Taylor when I first met him, but you know, over the past three years and especially this last one, he has become a good friend and I'm blessed to know him. He's been pretty influentual in my latest obsession of rock climbing ;)
This guy is a talented photographer himself and is currently in the Middle East working on a film with Within Broken Borders about the Israeli and Palestinian conflict. Kindaaa awesome. If you have a moment, definitely check out their blog and see their progress.
Here's part two of my time with Reesa and Jeff a few short weeks ago. I had such a hard time picking frames to blog because there were so many that I loved. They made my job so incredibly easy! Reesa and Jeff were recently married so stay tuned for that post. Until then, I experimented with film and blogged that portion here. Hope you're all enjoying the Seattle sun today!
A rainy day is a typical day in Seattle-- even in June.
"Dorothy, when I get married you are going to photograph my wedding!" said Reesa, sitting across the lunch table over four years ago. Now here we are and it's actually coming true. Who knew? I remember going to my Senior prom with this girl in my group and then the year after, photographing her senior portraits. Seeing her with Jeff totally makes sense. They are two of the kindest and most genuine people I've come across in my life. They wanted this time together to be as low-key and fun as possible, which resulted in games of Mother, May I and Simon Says. So fun! These two challenged me in my art in the best way possible and I left them remembering why I love this job of mine so much. To add a little bit of somethin' somethin', I decided to photograph some frames with my 35mm and these are the results. Stay tuned for more of these two! They're getting married tomorrow!
It baffles me that I have known Melissa for 7-8 years now. I remember the days we spent at summer camp, whispering about the cute boys and noting how gross camp food was... now here we are and she's about to graduate college in a week and a half. I photographed her about three years ago and she's still stunning as ever. So proud of all this lady has accomplished. Congrats Melissa!
Kelsey and Whitney are two fun-loving sisters who laughed their whole way throughout our time together. It was a joy to work with Kelsey, who was rockin' that red hair, and Whitney, who worked her sass. So glad to have been able to meet these two! Thanks ladies :)
Zach is graduating from the University of Washington in a few short weeks and I was privileged enough to get a few hours in with him. He was a real great sport and looked pretty dapper if I do say so myself.
Seattle's funny. It had been nice all day and as soon as I met up with Rediet, it started pouring. Naturally when we finished the sun came out. No matter though, because with some killer window light combined with Red's amazing skin, we got some great frames. I had so much fun photographing her. Rediet has been a dear friend to me these past few years and I am so excited that she is graduating soon. She's gonna be doing big things!
Natalie is someone who I am so blessed to call a friend. She plays the cello, loves Jesus and loves adventure. Photographing her was so refreshing to me.
It's that time of the year! Graduation. Shane, thanks so much for being so fun to work with.
I met these two on a rare sunny Seattle day in a beautiful part of town that I had never been before. Every Saturday, Joy and Steve grab an afternoon coffee at the same Tully's. This is where we started our session. I loved sitting down and listening to how the two of them met and after listening to them and reading their story, it is clear that these two are made for each other. Cheesy, I know but I'm serious. Steve absolutely adores Joy and it was so evident. I am so very excited and honored to be their wedding photographer. It's gonna be good!
Meghan and Reed are two real kind people. I spent a lovely sunny Seattle afternoon with them a few days ago and it was so great to be back in action. I'm excited for their LDS wedding day in a month :)
Kate is a new friend of mine who is another rad wedding photographer in the area. We met for the first time a few weeks ago and since then, have become fast friends. I've also had the privilege of second shooting for her and let me tell you, she is a joy to work with. We share the same love for Jesus, dancing, "singing" and good times with good company.
You should check her work out and see her shots of me here :)
Jennah and Shane are engaged. You may remember Jennah here. I love this woman to pieces and I think that Shane is the perfect guy for her. They both live and love to the fullest, adore and appreciate their friends- some of the kindest people you could meet. I know God's got rad plans for the two of them together :)
This has got to be the longest blog post I've ever done of an engagement session but these two look so good together, I couldn't help but run with it. I can not wait for their wedding in July- it's going to a p a r t y!
Melissa and Niki have been together for over 3 1/2 years and they are the cutest. I've known them for awhile (Mel was part of my youth group back in high school). The both of them just started college this year and over Winter Break they reunited and we met up in Seattle for some fun portraits. Goooood stuff. I like them.
